BF2Hub for Players

What is BF2Hub?

In the widest sense of the word BF2Hub is a GameSpy replacement or a database backend for Battlefield2. The goal of BF2Hub is to make Battlefield2 available and playable in the same manner as GameSpy had never closed, with minimum work for the players, admins and providers, respectively for you.

What is required to use BF2Hub?

You need a valid Battlefield2 installation patched to v1.5 in order to use BF2Hub. If you aren't on BF2 v1.5 yet, read this article on how to patch your BF2 installation in order to make it work with BF2Hub.

Why did you launch BF2Hub?

Because Electronic Arts has announced that:

  1. GameSpy will end all hosted services for games with end of June 2014.
  2. This will affect the online multiplayer aspect of some EA's older titles, including Battlefield2.
  3. EA does not have a solution to keep these services up and running at this time.
  4. They are still investigating community-supported options to preserve online functionality for these titles.

Or in simple words: Battlefield2 will die after GameSpy is closed and BF2Hub attemps to fix this issue!

What is BF2Hub Client?

BF2Hub Client is a software, developed

  • to backup and transfer your existing Battlefield2 account credentials, settings and stats (together, "BF2-Data") to the BF2Hub network.
  • to patch your settings to play Battlefield2 as usual on your favourite RANKED or unranked servers that joined the all new BF2Hub Network.
  • to provide an interface for important information regarding the future of Battlefield2

and to make the mentioned tasks as easy as possible for you.

I have installed BF2Hub Client, what now?

After you have downloaded and installed the BF2Hub Client a small tray icon in the taskbar () will show you that the BF2Hub Client is running on your PC.
Now lean back and relax! The BF2Hub Client is running and will inform you automatically as soon as an update or important notification is available.

How do i backup my data? (UPDATES!)

If your BF2Hub Client is running () you will receive updates from time to time. Those updates will also backup your Battlefield2 data automatically! You will be asked for confirmation before the backup starts.
Now lean back and relax! The BF2Hub Client is running and will inform you automatically as soon as an update or important notification is available.

Why does BF2Hub Client backup my data?

Mainly to protect your BF2 accounts (soldiers) and stats from unauthorized access after GameSpy is closed.
Thus BF2Hub backup and transfers this data for your own good, in all conscience and to provide online services for you, such as Battlefield2 game login, CD-key check and stats updates even if GameSpy is closed.

Please refer also to "Who has access to my Battlefield2 data?" or "Can I decline to backup my Battlefield2 data?" for further details.

What does BF2Hub Client backup in detail?

BF2Hub Client generally backs up your Battlefield2 profile id, soldier name (stats) and - since necessarily needed - your account credentials and CD-key.
Battlefield2 uses several challenge-response methods, therefore it is required that we store your Battlefield2 account credentials and CD-key. We are also working on a solution to avoid storing or transfering your account credentials or CD-key at all but that depends whether or not Electronic Arts will support us in that issue.
Your account credentials are transferred encryped via a secure connection (HTTPS).

Please note: BF2Hub Client backs up your existing Battlefield2 data for your own good, in all conscience and you have however the option to decline the backup of your data at all. Please refer to "Can I decline to backup my Battlefield2 data?" for further details.

Who has access to my Battlefield2 data?

Basically you, the owner of the data and in order to ensure that BF2Hub is able to provide you services that are responsive to your needs, you agree that BF2Hub representatives will have access to your account and records as reasonably needed.

Your Battlefield2 data is protected under our User Agreement, Privacy Policy and Software End User License Agreement which essentially means that we will never share or sale your Battlefield2 account credentials, settings or other personal information to anyone.

Can I decline to backup my Battlefield2 data?

Yes you can. Nothing will be stored or transferred without your explicit acceptance and confirmation.
Before any Battlefield2 data is stored and/or transferred to the BF2Hub Network via an BF2Hub Client update, the BF2Hub Client will ask you for confirmation to do so. You can of course refuse such updates but in that case we have no solution (at least yet) to provide online functionality for your Battlefield2 game nor retrieving your existing Battlefield2 soldier accounts and stats at all after GameSpy is closed.

Does BF2Hub guarantee that this solution will work?

Simply, NO. We work hard to make your experience enjoyable. However, we cannot always anticipate technical or other operational difficulties which may result in loss of data, personalization settings or other service interruptions. For this reason, you agree that our services are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE". At NO time we can guarantee, that the BF2Hub Service works as expected or at all.
We will however promise you to do our best to keep Battlefield2 alive and we will use all our abilities to achieve this goal.
